Arizona lawmakers add felony, mandatory fine to cut down on prostitution
Arizona lawmakers passed legislation that makes paying for sex a felony (up from a misdemeanor) and imposes mandatory minimum jail terms of 15 days for a first offense, up to six months for multiple offenses. The law, effective September, also aims to ease penalties for sex trafficking victims.
